Behind The Collection: Nine Islands' Summer Range

For lovers of luxury and sun-drenched travels in lands afar, comes the debut collection from the latest swimwear brand to cross our paths - Nine Islands. Every detail speaks to a love of the finer things in life; from the eclectic range of exotically-inspired prints, to the dreamy cuts that re-imagine vintage seaside style with a modern twist.

What really drew us in though, was the whimsical colour palette that spans oriental blues, iridescent mustards and sweet pastel stripes (our fave). With the resort-wear label freshly landed on site and our curiosity well and truly piqued, we decided to track down a certain talented woman for her personal insight into this indulgent collection!

Meet Brooke Fairburn, Designer at Nine Islands. She's a total sweetheart and a creative force to be reckoned with - and luckily for us she was all too keen to sit down and spill the beans on the inspo behind the Nine Islands Summer '18 range.

Brooke, thanks for catching up! What an exciting time with the launch of Nine Islands! Can you tell us about the inspiration behind the collection that’s landed just in time for the last days of summer?

Thank you! We are all so excited to launch the first collection of Nine Islands on Surfstitch. The inspiration behind the first collection came from that true desire to find and search for a personal oasis. Whether that means dreaming of sun filled days around the pool or feeling the warm sand between our toes, it's about having that deeper desire for something beyond the routines of daily life. Nine Islands was created to make you feel like you can escape, explore and refresh - you can tap into that touchpoint of luxury that we all so deeply desire.

Amazing! The whole collection looks incredible. Can you talk us through your favourite pieces?

Oh wow that’s a tough one as I love them all... every piece has a special and unique place in my heart! If I had to choose my favourite pieces they would be the Desert Flower High Waisted Pant & Bandeau Bikini and the Zinna One Piece. I just love the luxurious fabric and colours in both of these pieces.

Your photoshoot looked beautiful, who was the talent chosen for your first photoshoot and how does her unique look represent Nine Islands as a brand?

Thanks so much! We chose Michelle Baggarra to represent us for our first collection. Her natural beauty and ethereal soul makes her a perfect fit for our brand. It was a great couple of days spent on Stradbroke Island in sunny Queensland. There were lots of laughs on set, we had an amazing team!

If you could have one person wearing your swim collection, who would it be?

Women are so unique and all individual it’s a hard choice but if I had to choose one… I would love to see it on Doutzen Kroes, she is just amazing.

Can you give us a rundown of the collection now on SurfStitch and the influences behind the designs and styles?

The Range is a resort swimwear collection with complementing cover ups. It is moulded to fit all body shapes and panelled to complement each woman’s unique curves. The range was influenced by luxury, setting itself apart from other mainstream brands in the marketplace. The Nine Islands range is your essential resort swimwear collection, with luxuriously fitted pieces that make you feel sexy, comfortable and unique.

What’s one message you want our audience to know?

The range was created to make women feel beautiful and comfortable in their own skin. The luxurious undertones in every piece sets us apart from the others. The range is opulent but affordable and I hope you all love the first Nine Islands collection as much as I do.
