Wrap Up: The 2018 Single Fin Festival

There may not have been waves, but that didn’t stop the annual Burleigh Boardriders Single Fin Festival from kicking off in full swing last weekend.

Presented by the folks at Billabong and Vonu, the iconic festival, now in its 21st year, celebrates all things grassroots, paying homage to the historic boards, influential individuals and global collaboration of cultures that have pathed the way for where surfing now stands at present day.

Now recognised on a global scale more than ever before, the festival has come a long way since humble beginnings all those moons ago. Taking over the well renowned Burleigh Headland, The Single Fin invites families, friends, surfers and everyone between the gaps to come down, have a coldy and a snag, listen to live tunes, personally handle the boards of the past and witness surfing’s who’s who battle to take out the prestigious title.

To say the atmospheric levels were at their finest is an understatement, as crowds were treated to meet and greets with Occy, Otis Carey, Taj Burrow, Creed McTaggart and more. To further that, the absence of swell certainly didn’t stop both the Women’s and Junior competitors (all who also have to compete on single fin boards shaped before 1985) from turning it up and making a name for themselves on the world’s stage. Truly a modern day twist on old school traditions.

With a strong and prosperous future for the event, make sure you get down there next year (and every year after that) to support an incredible festival. For now though, check out the feature clip and the results below!
