The Hypto Krypto is one of Haydenshapes best-selling surfboards. Well-suited for elite-level surfing, right down to the everyday surfer, it is often referred to as the "one board quiver" for its versatility across all types of conditions, from small 1-3ft beach breaks, to barrels of up to 8ft. And while we know this is a worn-out label brands like to slap on any board they produce, there really is something to be said for the Hypto Krypto (both reviews below address the one-board-quiver cliche). You always get to see a Hypto at your local spot on average waves, but anyone browsing Indonesian surf channels will notice a Hypto Krypto being applied in some high-performance surfing on serious waves.

Hypto Krypto shape:

The round tail, lower rails and a bit of foam under the chest makes this board work for pretty much anyone, and the proof is that it is still one of the most popular boards in the world. It's won the Surfboard of the Year for a few years.

TheFuture-Flex technology, developed by Hayden himself, utilises an EPS foam core, a carbon fiber frame around the rail and epoxy resin, which makes the board light, lively and long-lasting. Hayden has always been at the forefront of Epoxy/EPS construction so he knows a thing or two about how good these materials work together.

Recommended fins:

TheThe Hypto Krypto doesn't include fins, and you get to choose between FCS II or Futures, depending on what your current collection of fins looks like.

For the bigger conditions, choose a fin with some drive to it, possibly some extended rake for added control. In smaller conditions, choose a setup that allows you to generate speed in order to make the most out of your Hypto Krypto.

With a five-fin cluster, you do get a lot of options though, and we recommend experimenting with whatever you have to find a setup that really compliments your style.

SurfHungry has a pretty substantial review of the Hypto Krypto describing the origins of the shape and includes a good size/weight table that can be helpful. Their assessment is fair and spot-on. Or, from the video review below:

"There is a lot of paddle power in the Hypto Krypto with a lot of well distributed foam sitting directly under your chest which makes getting into waves really easy, and then when up on the wave and going, this foam is under your front foot which helps maintain speed, especially across fat and weak sections."

Craig from The Surfboard Guide in mid-review of the Hypto Krypto

"But getting back on the tail of this board, I was really impressed of what it was capable of when given a section, and it performance just like my favorite high performance shortboard and very capable of performance surfing."
