In 1966, brothers Paul and Jim Van Doren opened The Van Doren Rubber Company in California, offering a unique experience: shoes made on-site and sold directly to customers. Not long after, they designed the deck shoe, now famously known as the VANS AUTHENTIC. This shoe quickly became a staple of street and skate footwear, beloved by generations.

The 1970s saw the introduction of more classics like the Tony Alva and Stacy Peralta designed Vans Era, and the iconic VANS OLD SKOOL with the now-famous Vans Sidestripe. Additionally, the VANS CLASSIC SLIP-ON was designed specifically for BMX riders, further cementing Vans’ reputation in the action sports community.

Though the company faced challenges in the mid-1980s, Vans experienced a massive resurgence in the 1990s, reaffirming its place as a core streetwear brand.
