MEET: Mimi Elashiry For Tigerlily's Spicewood

September 27, 2016

Meet Mimi Elashiry… a free spirited, slightly rebellious artistic soul with a distinct yet eclectic style. She’s a dancer, photographer, activist and designer, and now the latest Spicewood muse for Tigerlily. With the campaign photographed by the gorgeous Josie Clough along the familiar, wild and whimsical Sydney coastline, the images blew us away – Mimi has a way of imbuing attitude and charisma into every shot.

We chatted to Mimi to get a glimpse into her inner world, her favourite music festivals, her health and fitness routine, her creative venture into film photography, and more.

Where are your favourite beaches you’ve discovered and what do you love about them?

  1. Bondi – Well I live here! So I would be lying if I didn’t say I love it! I’m always here. Mornings are spent boxing, running and swimming and it has the best cafe’s too.
  2. Castle Rock – The best little hidden spot! Tucked away along the Manly national park walk and there’s an ice cream boat…
  3. Little Wategoes – The best sunset in Byron.
  4. Sarakiniko, Milos, Greece – Well… it’s like you’re on the moon! Glittery white boulders and rocks meet the edge of the turquoise blue Mediterranean Sea.

Why do you love to travel?
I feel like one of the most important things to me in life is to see and experience many of the world’s vast cultures, histories and landscapes. After all it is the world we live in and I love to be out of my comfort zone. On top of that, whilst traveling, I find that I gather creative inspiration.

Where is your ultimate travel destination?
Egypt! because it’s next on my list! I can’t wait to go visit my grandparents who I haven’t seen since I was last there 12 years ago! I’m excited to go wandering around the temples and historical sites.

Which is your favourite music festival and why?
Hmm that’s a hard one… I have been to a lot over the last few years and they have all been so different, from the watery wonderlands of Symbiosis to the dusty dance floors of Burning Man. Out of this world art installations to mind boggling sound systems. Every festival has its own charm. For the minute, I’m going to count Burning Man out as a ‘music festival’ and I would have to say on an international scale, Glastonbury takes the cake with it’s real effort to include something for everyone. Healing fields, winding forrests, trap doors, flame throwing stages, workshops and delicious foods are just a few of its many facets. I’m currently en route to Rainbow Serpent Festival in Victoria so I’ll have to report back. So far the vibe, music, silliness and swimming of Subsonic wins in Aus.

Do you have a health and fitness mantra?
I swear by a whole foods diet. Foods in their whole and natural state, cooked however you like. I don’t consume any processed foods or refined sugars. I no longer have any other dietary requirements, as I travel so much and love to enjoy the foods of different cultures without having to be restricted. I also grew up dancing almost every day, so for me it’s very important to just get up and moving on the daily. Whether it’s dancing, walking, running, yoga, swimming laps at icebergs, boxing or going to the gym. I like to change it up to keep myself motivated. That being said, I have a few favorite YouTube workouts that I like to do every day.

Which pieces did you fall in love with on the Tigerlily Spicewood shoot?
The red and white stripe Elissa bikini, wrap white aztec print hand loom Driftwood skirt, the knit blue bodycon dress (Presidio) and the olive green terry Sierra bikini.

We hear you styled yourself at the shoot. Tell us about the pieces you used and how you worked your own pieces in?
Tigerlily pieces speak for themselves with all the gorgeous prints and embellishments on swimsuits so I didn’t need to do much at all! I styled it with my own favourite jewelry, in particular an amber necklace I got on my travels in Morroco and my favourite Pamela love skull necklace. A few Lack Of Color hats in the mix too. I love a headscarf which I use in many ways. As a belt, top, hair-tie – you name it!

Tell us about your creative outlets and inspirations…
At the moment, my newest creative venture is film photography – as @35mimimeter on Instagram. But my number 1 inspiration and outlet is Dancing. I love the freedom I feel when I move and the emotional and creative release. I also paint sometimes but just for fun. Mixing colours and splashing them about feels very meditative. I also enjoy drawing a lot of designs for dresses and clothing, just for fun :)

What projects are you working on for 2018?
I’m the ambassador for PLAN International. A children’s organization currently focusing on young women and discrimination. I’m also working creatively alongside Adidas to create and curate content for them throughout the year. After 3 years of traveling and living abroad, this year I’m focusing on getting grounded, feeling close to home and spending time with my family and close friends.

How would you describe your style?
Eclectic. I gather bits and pieces of traditional accessories from different cultures. For example, Navajo jewelry, Indian scarves etc. and tie these in with my favorite Australian and international labels. I’m also obsessed with early-mid 1900’s women’s fashion and so my vintage collection spans all decades.

Who are your style muses?
Jane Birkin and 70’s Cher.

Thanks Mimi! X
