Every now and again a collection lands instore that we’re blown away by. Billabong’s Sunshine Kids did exactly that - and with good reason!

A collection embodying blues and whites as well as earthy tones and other hints of colour inspired by the coastline, the range features playful dresses, eye catching one pieces, standout swimwear styles and much more. After your new spring wardrobe? Good news, you’ve come to the right place ladies!

“Sunshine Kids, our new collection that reminds us of a sea wave and a submersion into the ocean, it’s nineties styling by the seaside. A whole lot of Amalfi blues that call out the colours of the coastline.”

To learn more about the range, including the design inspiration, amazing campaign and the team behind its fruition, we caught up with Cayleh Ferguson, the Marketing Communications Executive for Billabong Womens Australia. Shop the range here and read on to learn all about this must have collection.

Thanks for catching up! Can you tell us who you are and your role at Billabong?
I’m Cayleh Ferguson and my role at Billabong is Marketing Communications Executive for Billabong Womens Australia. It sounds very fancy and for the most part it is! I get to work on content creation and photoshoots, mainly collaborations and speed to market collections which is my favourite part of my job as it allows me to get super creative, meet amazing people and travel the world to places I never thought I would get to tick off my bucket list! I also look after Trade Marketing, digital advertising and run point on social and blog content. I work with the rest of the marketing team on ensuring our emerging markets have everything they need to go to market each season; Dubai, Israel, NZ, Indo, Thailand and Hong Kong.

The new Sunshine Kids collection has just landed on site and we are loving it. Tell us all about it!
Blue and white always does well for Billabong and is fresh as everyone starts to think about the warmer weather and Spring time. The mandarin is a great fresh spring colour that packs a punch and makes everything a bit more fun. The earthy tones are a compliment to the strong blues and mandarin for the girl who is a little more understated. It kind of reminds me of a European Summer, with a mix of the Amalfi coast blue hues, and the warm sunset colours in the sky – broken up with the natural and earthy tones of the buildings and other surrounds.

Who were the people involved with bringing this all to life?
The Billabong Brand crew including the talented design team which is where it all starts. Fleur our Design Manager comes on the shoot as the stylist, Stephanie Hendrickson, the Marketing Manager coordinates production of the shoot, Hayley O’Connor our graphic artist is in charge of creative as well as Sunny Coast born photographer Woody Gooch and our talented Videographer Mike Calvino. We also worked with Aussie born LA based H & M artist Casey Gore.

The campaign shoot looks amazing! Where was it shot and why was this location chosen?
It was shot in Isla Holbox (pronounced IZLA HOLBUSH) a tiny island off the coast of the Yucatan Peninsula in Mexico. It’s relatively easy to get too and about a hour and ahalf bus ride from Cabo San Lucas and then a short ferry across the bay. The quaint town has tonnes of character and is centred around an old church whose bells rang loud early every Sunday morning. It was a photoshoot paradise with so many amazing backdrops from the clear Caribbean waters with powdery white sand, to the old colourful fishing boats, the palm trees, the bamboo huts and the incredible murals on the walls of nearly every building. We also shot at Casa Impala – an soulful island retreat that you can rent out on Air BnB with such beautiful simplistic décor. It’s so beautiful that we actually wanted to move in. This is mostly where we shot the Sunshine Kids collection.

Who are the talent featured and why were they the perfect fit for the Sunshine Kids campaign?
Pacha Light is a team rider, she’s full of energy and has a sassy spirit. She is passionate about the environment and doing all she can to share her values with her fans and followers. She’s a whole lot of fun and loves the Mexico vibes. Joanne McKay is a kiwi-born, Bali-based babe who loves the surf lifestyle and feels mostly at home on the beach.

What style will we catch you and the Billabong team in this season? Is there a standout fave in the office?
There’s never shortage of the blues on the Billabong babes but as the temp warms up and our spirits lift the mandarin will be a new spring fave. Jumpsuits seem to be the standout in the office, just so easy to get dressed in the morning and pull an outfit together when it’s only one piece!
