Brand Feature: Depactus

“The Depactus concept is a simple one. Being an outdoors brand, we always strive to put function, comfort and quality above everything” says Dean Newton, Senior Designer at Depactus.

Producing threads to accompany and support your pursuit for adventure makes up their DNA. When each range comes to fruition, attention to every creative element is taken to with a fine toothed comb to ensure final product is made to last, ready to withstand whatever you are into. The latest drop sees a mix of fine fitting tees, functional and versatile bottoms, as well as backpacks and other accessories. As always, the durability and quality is evident in every last stitch, truly made for land and for sea, the brands ethos since 2014.

“The Depactus brand is all about the pursuit and enjoying the outdoors, and this one brings that to life by following the natural flow from the waterfall to the sea, with nothing more than a board, a fishing rod and backpack. Everything you need to stay out all weekend long!” continues Newton.

Can you introduce yourself and tell us your position at Depactus?
My name is Dean Newton and I’m the Senior Men’s Designer at Depactus.

Let’s get straight into it! The new drop has just hit the site and looks to cover anything and everything the guys want to get up to on an adventure. Run us through some of the standout styles and some of their features?
The Depactus concept is a simple one. Being an outdoors brand, we always strive to put function, comfort and quality above everything so regardless of what you are into, our apparel and accessories will have you covered. This summer, we are really stoked on the entire range, though the standout styles are for sure the Turn Out Short and Denver Roll Top backpack.

Being in Australia, we are all familiar with our coastal lifestyles, and that’s where the inspiration for the Turn Out came from, providing the customer with some lightweight shorts that are multi-functional for activities both in and out of the water. With mesh pockets and zip closure systems, paired with the durable nylon fabric and tech web belt on the waistline to conveniently tighten or loosen with one hand, it truly is the ultimate everyday short, no matter what you are up to.

With some design inspiration taken from our winter range, the Denver Roll Top backpack is also one of my favourites this season. Made with high quality HP cordura patterned fabric, it features a completely waterproof inner pouch bag, a microsuede sunglasses case, and enough lighterage to fit everything you need from a Friday afternoon through to Sunday night. It’s water resistant and is equipped with waterproof zips on its many compartments and also has padded air mesh shoulder straps to make your journey as comfortable as possible. It’s the bag for all occasions.

Can you tell us about any sustainable messaging incorporated through the collection?
Sustainability is something we as a brand are passionate about, and we are always looking to include more environmentally friendly processes and materials to ensure our carbon footprint is as little as possible. The major call out this season is the Balance tee, which is made from 100% organic cotton and dyed with non-toxic chemicals to bring its nature inspired colour pallet to life. This final finish is designed to fade over time resulting in a simple, comforting look that pays homage to the outdoors we all of course love to be a part of.

Alongside the organic cotton materials, the dye process is what makes this one special and makes us proud. Some people may not know how harmful this process can actually be and the toll it can take on the environment, but by using non toxic chemicals we are making a conscious effort to help the environment, while still bringing high quality, functional goods to the customer. Again, this is something we want to incorporate more and more of in the near future, so keep your eyes on this space!

Let's talk about the campaign. Where was it shot and who were the key people involved?
This latest campaign captures the brand to a tee. Shot in our very own backyard at selected spots around the Gold Coast and Northern New South Wales, the idea was to tell the story of adventure. The concept follows the story and day in the life of a Depactus ambassador, from first waking up in his rainforest hideaway to then getting a peak into his journey ahead to surf, fish and enjoy a weekend expedition with his mates.

The Depactus brand is all about the pursuit and enjoying the outdoors, and this one brings that to life by following the natural flow from the waterfall to the sea, with nothing more than a board, a fishing rod and backpack. Everything you need to stay out all weekend long! The key individuals involved were model, Jye Williams, alongside photographer Tim Allen and campaign director Delphy Jungo. With our latest styles thrown in the mix, the team did a great job showcasing not only our latest collection, but also further telling the Depactus story.
